What the Bible Says About Money: I Was WRONG!
by Tracy Latona |
I used to be afraid of building wealth because of what I thought the Bible said about money.
Growing up, I heard that the desire to be wealthy was bad—it would tempt me to prioritize money over Jesus. So why even pursue it?
But as I worked with my coach to grow my business, I started comparing what she taught to what the Bible says about abundance, receiving, and having lots of money.
Here’s what I discovered that blew my mind.
But first, let me be frank:
You won’t get rich just by following Jesus. That’s a false prosperity gospel.
But you are given gifts that you’re asked to steward well and grow—and that INCLUDES money.
We often overlook the fact that wealth itself isn’t bad. It’s actually a blessing from God. And with it, we’re called to be wildly generous and care for widows, orphans, and the poor.
Jesus’ ministry was even supported by women who gave from their own resources (Luke 8:3).
So how can you give generously if you’re broke?
How can you be wildly generous and give financially to the causes that tug on your heart if you’re living paycheck to paycheck?
This was a breakthrough for me because I wanted to be generous for God’s Kingdom.
The Bible is extremely clear that it’s your heart behind building wealth that matters.
Jesus asked the rich man to sell everything to follow Him, not because being wealthy is bad, but because He was pointing out that the man loved money more than Him (Matthew 19:16-30).
You can have wealth and humility. It’s about realizing that it’s God’s money, and you’re called to manage it well (Deuteronomy 10:14-17).
Step one in stewardship is recognizing this.
Step two is being intentional with your money, instead of letting it slip through your fingers.
The Bible calls us to:
- Have a plan for our money—Luke 14:28-30
- Avoid debt—Proverbs 22:7
- Save for emergencies—Proverbs 21:20
- Be wildly generous—2 Corinthians 9:11
- Enjoy the income God has given us—Ecclesiastes 5:19
While following Jesus won’t make you rich, following His principles for money management will lead to financial growth over time.
Is that guaranteed? No. God has different gifts for everyone, but we are all called to steward and grow what He gives us.
That’s why I created the Steward and Grow Method—so Christians can manage money with confidence, and grow their mindset and bank account to live generously, and stop money stress.
I know you’re ready to:
- Help those who go through natural disasters, by giving the way you want to or by being able to take time off work to help
- Write a fat check for the missionary from church, so they can do their Kingdom work
- Buy a full meal for the guy on the street, so you can love on your community
All without worrying if your household has enough.
It’s time to eliminate stress and anxiety around managing your finances.
Click the Scheduling Button and let’s set up a Money Strategy Session to make a plan to go from where you are to where you want to be with your finances.
And just so you know, this is a judgment-free zone—I’ve done “stupid on steroids” with money myself.
The time is now to manage your money with confidence and be a good steward of God’s gifts!
Blessings,
Tracy
