This might sound absurd coming from a financial coach, but here it is:
Your bank account is NOT your savior.
Yes, you read that right. Even with a six month emergency fund or a million-dollar net worth, money won’t stop the unexpected from happening. And it certainly won’t swoop in with a cape to give you the ultimate peace of mind you crave on its own.
Believe me, I’ve tried.
After we paid off debt and fully funded our emergency savings, I thought I’d feel unstoppable. But instead of peace, I felt something else: fear. What if we lost it all?
Spoiler alert: we did. Life happened—car repairs, HVAC meltdowns, and vet bills. And our savings disappeared faster than cheesecake at a Baptist church potluck.
